Madras Cosmopolitan Golf Club Annex

The golf course of the Madras Cosmopolitan Golf Club was built in 1873 and offers year round golfing to the people of Southern India. The course was redesigned by Peter Thomson. It is an eighteen hole, PAR 72 course. Total distance for the ladies is 5,863 yards while the total for the men is 6,859 yards. The best season to play the course is in February. The course is spread over a 75 acre area and features a variety of trees along the fairways. The first nine holes are fairly tight but the second nine are more open.

When redesigning the course, Peter Thompson introduced several water hazards to make the course more of a challenge. The very first hole is a 371, PAR 4 hole that is difficult because of a water tank. The fifth hole is probably the most difficult on the course which is a 432, PAR 4. This particular hole has a tight fairway and several trees that are on the left. The first drive for this hole has to be strong enough to clear the trees. This presents a challenge for even the most seasoned pro.

The course itself is in great shape with greens that are well elevated. The greens offer great slopes which increase the skill needed to make the PAR. The fairways offer a blend of green and brown but you will find more brown in the summer due to the lack of water. A drain that runs through the course actually divides the course in two.

The club currently offers no overnight accommodations but these can be found in the city. The club does offer a bar and a kitchen. Catering service is also available.

During your stay in the city you will find there are many sightseeing attractions to choose from. You can visit Kapaleeswarar which is an ancient Shiva temple. This is also the largest temple in Madras. You can also visit Fort St. George which was built in 1640 AD. This was the first British bastion of power in India. The city also offers some fantastic convention centers and luxury hotels. Tourists who visit there will find plenty to do and see.
