The Jayachamaraja Wodiyar Golf Club began in 1906 when one of India’s maharajas designated the foothills of Chamundi Hills to have a golf course and a race track. The club is located on 110 acres of beautiful real estate. The golf course was redesigned in 1996 by the Pacific Coast Design Company out of Australia. The course is an eighteen hole, PAR 70 course which has a length of 5,920 yards. It is open the year round with the best season being July through October.
All of the browns have been converted to high quality greens and the fairways are tight. The first two holes are very challenging with the first hole being 400 yards, PAR 4. It is very easy to shoot out of bounds on the first two holes. The second hole is 210 yards and PAR 3. There are two major tournaments held at the course each year. They are the Maharaja’s Tournament and the Addicts Golfing Society of Southern India Tournament.
India has always been a name synonymous with sports but recent years have seen a drastic increase in golfing interest. People have begun to look at golf as being a relaxing and rewarding experience. The club in Mysore offers picturesque views of the Chamundi Hills. Every experienced golfer has the desire to play this course to see if they can meet the challenge. The club also promotes junior golfers by providing them with free coaching and sponsorships to play in tournaments. The children who are below 14 get to play free and everything they need is provided for them.
Everyone who plays the Mysore course enjoys the challenges that are offered there. The course is well maintained and they have an irrigation system in place to keep the greens lush and luxurious.
The club also offers a club house which is built on a total of 3.5 acres. It was designed by an award winning architect, Dr. Bhooshan, who did a fantastic job on the design. It features an open design which allows a pleasant breeze to help keep it cool. It also features a bar and a dining hall. Currently there are no overnight accommodations but those can be found in the city located nearby.
